Park Hill School District is seeking Specialized Teacher Assistants in multiple schools in the Kansas City, MO area. The jobs are full-time, with full benefits. The starting salary is no less than $18.49 an hour plus a $1.00 an hour retention bonus. The retention bonus is paid twice a year on January 15th and June 15th. This position requires two things: 1. A Missouri Substitute Certificate, which can be obtained by completing an application through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at www.dese.mo.gov. 2. Either 36 college credit hours or a high school diploma + 20 hours of online instruction through Frontline. More information can be found at www.dese.mo.gov. The job of Teacher Assistant is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom or in a self-contained classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; providing information to appropriate school personnel; and attending IEP meetings. This job reports to the Principal. Essential Functions include adapting classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. The assistant administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc., modifies student work to help limit behavior issues while still accomplishing goals, and provides immediate general first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional. The assistant also assists with appropriate behavioral intervention techniques as directed by the supervising teacher, attends meetings and in-service presentations for acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions, and communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives. The role involves escorting students in the building from class to class and to/from buses or cars, implementing plans designed by the IEP team for students with special conditions, maintaining instructional materials and/or manual files/records, monitoring students during assigned periods within various school environments, providing instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities, and recording daily, weekly logs for behaviors, academics, and prompts to ensure accurate information is kept on each student.
