About the position

The Specialty Custom Millworker position at TRAVIS Companies involves assisting in the specialty department to complete complex millwork projects efficiently and within specified timelines. The role requires the ability to receive instructions, interpret blueprints, and utilize specialty tools effectively. The millworker will be responsible for fabricating products according to approved designs and drawings while being mindful of completion dates. The position demands a strong understanding of specialty millwork tools and machines, as well as the ability to complete specialty products once instructions are provided. Knowledge of the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) standards is also essential. The millworker will report to the production manager and specialty lead, and will be expected to perform other duties as assigned. In this role, effective communication skills are crucial, as the individual must read and interpret various documents, including blueprints and safety rules. A mathematical aptitude is necessary for taking measurements and performing calculations. The ability to apply common sense reasoning to follow instructions and resolve minor problems is also important. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, along with at least five years of experience in a commercial or residential millwork plant. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred, as they can be beneficial in the construction field. Additionally, certifications such as forklift operation and OSHA-related certifications are advantageous. The physical demands of the job include standing, walking, sitting, and using hands to handle tools and materials. The employee must be able to lift over 50 pounds regularly and work at varying heights. The work environment may involve exposure to different temperatures and noise levels, reflecting the diverse conditions encountered in millwork operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in completing specialty millwork projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least five (5) years' experience in a small to mid-sized commercial or residential millwork plant.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and take measurements accurately.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to assess and resolve minor problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is beneficial for the construction field.
  • Forklift certification (Preferred).
  • Relating OSHA Certifications (Preferred).
