About the position

SP+A is seeking a specifications writer to join our team in the creation of project manuals. This role is responsible for preparing project specifications, enhancing and maintaining master specifications, and determining innovative ways to meet client needs through the construction specification delivery process. The position involves writing, editing, and coordinating specifications and related construction documents for various building types and construction types, ensuring that project requirements are fulfilled during the construction phase.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project specifications including general conditions.
  • Enhance and maintain master specifications.
  • Determine innovative ways to meet client needs through construction specification delivery.
  • Perform specification modifications for specific projects.
  • Manage workflow pertaining to the project manual to and from the project team.
  • Maintain specification and materials resource libraries.
  • Provide guidance on the use of proposed building products and materials.
  • Suggest alternatives for building products when appropriate.
  • Produce coordinated technical specifications and documents for projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of addenda and respond to construction administration staff regarding submittals and RFI's.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Mid-level experience in specifications writing or related field.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills across disciplines at various design phases and levels of development.
  • Basic knowledge of building materials and codes, construction techniques, and material characteristics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with K-12, municipal, public safety, and civic projects.
  • Familiarity with corporate interiors.
