About the position

The Specimen Processing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Specimen Processing department, ensuring compliance with guidelines, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. This role involves supervising staff, managing workflow, and implementing standard operating procedures to enhance productivity and quality in specimen processing.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of the Specimen Processing department, including Imaging/Microfilming and Test In Question functions.
  • Oversee safety, ergonomics, maintenance, and cleanliness of the department.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures for Specimen Processing in accordance with Quest Diagnostics guidelines.
  • Review and ensure compliance with the Specimen Processing Standard Operating Procedure Manual biannually.
  • Ensure all Federal, State & local licensure requirements are met in collaboration with QA and Medical Director's offices.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete for internal and external inspections/audits.
  • Monitor compliance guidelines and competency testing for all employees.
  • Train employees and ensure they meet annual competency requirements.
  • Monitor incoming workflow from Logistics and adjust as necessary to maintain adequate specimen supply.
  • Supervise packing and shipping of specimens to other laboratories in accordance with IATA regulations.
  • Ensure integrity of specimens sent to other facilities for accurate and timely results.
  • Monitor special handling of Jeopardized Clients, Hospital Clients, and Vital Specimens to prevent mishandling.
  • Demonstrate leadership in employee relations, scheduling, onboarding, team meetings, coaching, and performance management.
  • Establish a participative work environment that encourages employee involvement.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably with a medical or production background.
  • Previous leadership experience in a people management role.
