About the position

Provide specialized instruction to students in a self-contained instructional setting who have characteristics associated with autism and similar neurological disorders. Plan, develop, and implement individualized education plans. Provide instruction for a diverse group of learners with a focus on accessing the TEKs through hands on activity based instructional strategies that may target: daily living and self help skills, behavioral and social skills, occupational and physical therapy, speech and augmentative communication, and adaptive physical education. Provide for the self help needs of students with a variety of low incidence and/or multiple disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction to students with autism and similar neurological disorders.
• Plan, develop, and implement individualized education plans.
• Use hands-on activity-based instructional strategies to engage diverse learners.
• Target daily living and self-help skills, behavioral and social skills, and other therapeutic needs.
• Support students with low incidence and/or multiple disabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements.
• Knowledge of special needs of students with disabilities such as autism and cognitive delays.
• Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and IEP goal setting.
• Ability to modify instructional materials for a variety of learners.
• Knowledge of positive behavioral support strategies.
• At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience.

Nice-to-haves

• ESL (English as a Second Language) certification.
