About the position

The SPED LSC/DSC Teacher at Chaparral Middle School is responsible for creating a flexible instructional program and a conducive classroom environment that promotes learning and personal growth among students with special needs. The teacher will establish effective rapport with pupils, motivate them to develop essential skills, and maintain communication with parents and staff. This role requires adherence to educational standards and regulations while fostering a positive learning atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and enforces school rules and regulations.
  • Acts as a positive role model for students.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes effectively.
  • Develops and maintains a conducive classroom environment for learning.
  • Prepares for classes and provides evidence of preparation when requested.
  • Encourages students to maintain established standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employs various instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
  • Implements educational philosophy and instructional goals set by the district.
  • Takes precautions to protect students and classroom materials.
  • Evaluates student progress regularly and maintains required records.
  • Attends staff and departmental meetings as required.
  • Maintains professional relationships with staff and collaborates on instructional goals.
  • Assists in selecting instructional materials and equipment.
  • Communicates with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
  • Utilizes teaching techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Tests students, records grades, and sends progress reports timely.
  • Collaborates with principal and counselors to address student issues.
  • Supervises students, instructional assistants, and volunteers as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree.
  • Valid New Mexico Teaching license.
  • TESOL Endorsement (with exceptions for certain licensed teachers).

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of current research and theory in instructional programs.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and student needs.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
