About the position

The Speech Language Pathologist Contractor is responsible for screening, assessing, and treating students with communication problems that impact their classroom activities, social interactions, literacy, and learning. This part-time independent consultant role focuses on individual student needs as defined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP) and may involve working across multiple states and schools. The contractor will also supervise Speech-Language Assistants in providing services to students.

Responsibilities

  • Screen and evaluate students with suspected speech-language impairments.
  • Provide case management of speech-only caseload.
  • Ensure all speech and language services are provided as determined by the IEP team.
  • Communicate with parents and teachers to develop a schedule that encourages regular attendance and participation by the student.
  • Develop progress reports and other state-specific required special education documentation.
  • Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities are made available.
  • Monitor assigned speech-language pathology assistant caseload, schedule, and services.
  • Maintain compliance with state, school, and company regulations.
  • Instruct students, families, and teachers in appropriate communication strategies and technologies.
  • Maintain files and records for compliance and reference.
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Document all contact with parents and interventions with students.
  • Provide engaging therapy experiences for students.
  • Demonstrate a belief in all students' ability to succeed and meet high expectations.
  • Establish and maintain a positive rapport with families and communicate regularly with students and parents.
  • Provide support to student support team (SST) and response to intervention (RTI) processes.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology or related field.
  • Three years of speech/language work experience within a public-school setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work independently with availability during typical school hours of at least 20 hours per week.
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during work hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supervising Speech Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) Speech Language Pathologists.
