About the position

The Speech/Language Pathologist at The Starting Place in Hudson, NY, is responsible for providing speech and language therapy services to preschool children enrolled in special education programs. This role involves working closely with children, parents, and program staff to ensure effective communication strategies are implemented according to each child's Individual Education Plan (IEP). The position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the communication skills of children and support their developmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide screenings, individual or group speech and language therapy, and annual assessments to children enrolled in special education services.
  • Make recommendations for individual or group speech and language therapy based on assessments.
  • Provide direction and oversight to program staff involved in communication skills training.
  • Perform data collection procedures and report writing in accordance with program policies and federal Medicaid billing documentation.
  • Assist in the development of IEPs and consult with program staff on communication strategies.
  • Participate as a member of the Child Study Team and Classroom Team for each child on the caseload.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to incorporate communication objectives into daily activities.
  • Encourage parent participation and provide training as needed; conduct annual parent workshops.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to meet regulatory and Agency requirements.
  • Prepare and submit requisitions for equipment and supplies needed for the program.
  • Provide clinical supervision to a Teacher of the Speech & Hearing Handicapped or a Clinical Fellow as requested.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a field related to Speech and Language Pathology.
  • NYSED Speech Language Pathologist License.
  • One year of prior experience working with special education children.
  • Exceptional written, communication, and computer skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to be certified in all required trainings.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 80 pounds.
