About the position

The Speech Pathologist at Columbia Post Acute is responsible for evaluating and treating patients referred by physicians, developing effective treatment plans, and supervising Speech Language Pathologist Assistants. This part-time role requires collaboration with healthcare team members and participation in patient care conferences, ensuring compliance with state practice acts and facility policies.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients within 24 hours of physician referral and document any delays.
  • Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval from referring physicians.
  • Treat patients according to the physician's treatment plan.
  • Supervise Speech Language Pathologist Assistants in direct patient care activities.
  • Communicate with supervisors and health team members regarding patient progress and plans.
  • Participate in Patient Care Conferences and Utilization Review meetings as needed.
  • Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, and progress notes per state and payer requirements.
  • Instruct families and nursing staff on maintenance programs and caregiver training for discharge.
  • Participate in discharge planning and act as a clinical preceptor for Speech Language Pathologist students.
  • Comply with the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Bureau State Practice Act.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology; preference for Master's or Doctorate graduates.
  • Licensed as a Speech Therapist in the state with continuing education requirements.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including data input into programs like Casamba and Point Click Care.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures and policy manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supervising clinical fellows or training restorative aides.
