About the position

The position involves diagnosing disorders and providing therapy for clients/patients who demonstrate disorders of communication and/or dysphagia. The role requires planning and implementing programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of Speech Pathology across various areas of the hospital system, including Acute care, Outpatient, In-Patient (CMR), and Hospice. Additionally, the position includes providing instruction and supervision of student interns in speech pathology.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the evaluation of assigned clients/patients and determine causal factors for communication impairments and/or dysphagia.
  • Develop individualized treatment programs for clients/patients diagnosed as needing speech, language, or dysphagia intervention.
  • Prepare documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Complete appropriate documents to assist in requests for certification from patient's insurance carrier.
  • Communicate observations, facts, and comments with nursing and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Supervise subordinate staff and student activities.
  • Provide clinical supervision of patient treatments and record keeping.
  • Act as liaison with nursing, medical staff and other hospital personnel.
  • Identify needs in program planning and facilitate program development.
  • Recommend and develop new in-services and programs.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced staff members.
  • Maintain schedules as necessary for the daily operations of the department.
  • Comply with department policies, procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, infection control and quality assurance programs.
  • Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings and attend other meetings as required.
  • Meet the needs of patients in the waiting area and the treatment rooms.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
  • Follow North Oaks Health System's Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Masters Degree program in Speech Pathology.
  • Current LA. state license in Speech Pathology is required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association is preferred.
  • New Graduates Accepted.
