About the position

The Retail Associate at Cayuga Spirits is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, assisting customers in selecting products, handling sales transactions, and maintaining a well-organized and appealing store environment. This position requires knowledge of wines, spirits, and related products or a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and engage customers in a friendly, helpful manner.
  • Assist customers with product selection based on preferences, needs, and special occasions.
  • Provide recommendations and product knowledge regarding wine, spirits, and other alcoholic beverages.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
  • Operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system to process sales transactions efficiently.
  • Accurately handle cash, credit card, and other forms of payment.
  • Ensure proper pricing and promotions are applied to purchases.
  • Issue receipts, process returns, and handle exchanges according to store policies.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of wine, spirits, and related products to assist customers effectively.
  • Stay updated on new products and promotions to boost sales.
  • Promote special deals and in-store promotions.
  • Assist in receiving deliveries and verifying shipment contents.
  • Stock shelves, ensuring products are neatly displayed and replenished as needed.
  • Monitor product expiry dates and rotate stock to ensure freshness.
  • Perform regular inventory counts and report low stock to the manager.
  • Ensure the store is clean, organized, and visually appealing.
  • Assist with store opening and closing duties, including cleaning and securing the premises.
  • Keep aisles, shelves, and counters tidy and well-maintained.
  • Verify customer age and comply with state liquor laws regarding the sale of alcohol.
  • Adhere to all store policies and procedures, including alcohol sales regulations and safety protocols.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling hazardous materials, such as broken glass or spills.
  • Assist in planning and executing in-store events, wine tastings, and promotions.
  • Support the team in achieving sales targets.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the store manager.

Requirements

  • Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
  • Experience in wine, spirits, or beverage retail is a plus, but training will be provided.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic math and cash handling abilities.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items (e.g., cases of wine/spirits).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of wines and spirits is advantageous, but not required. A willingness to learn is essential.
