About the position

The Spiritual Care HC Specialist III - Patient Experience at UCI Health is a full-time role focused on providing spiritual care and counseling to patients and their families. The incumbent will facilitate Clinical Pastoral Services, assist individuals in integrating their religious beliefs with their healthcare needs, and collaborate with other spiritual care professionals to address the diverse spiritual needs of the patient population. This position requires a deep understanding of spiritual assessment and the ability to provide support in crisis situations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Clinical Pastoral Services including chaplaincy and pastoral care.
  • Assist patients and families in integrating their religious beliefs with their healthcare needs.
  • Evaluate individual needs for spiritual guidance and counseling.
  • Initiate individual or group programs to meet spiritual needs.
  • Enhance community relationships related to volunteer spiritual care services.
  • Collaborate with chaplains and spiritual care volunteers to provide comprehensive spiritual care.
  • Provide pastoral care and crisis counseling to staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience as a Chaplain in a healthcare setting.
  • Thorough organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of ethical and confidentiality issues in a multi-faith clinical setting.
  • Solid spiritual assessment skills and ability to communicate assessments to the healthcare team.
  • Knowledge of various religious and spiritual traditions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse beliefs and cultures.
  • Skilled in providing support on issues of death, dying, grief, loss, and disability.
  • Ordination or commissioning by a faith group to serve as a religious leader.
  • Master's degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, or equivalent.
  • Completion of at least 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an accredited center.
  • Advanced pastoral judgment and triage skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as Chaplain through an approved Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (APC, NAJC or NACC).
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish or Korean.
