The Spoken Language Medical Interpreter II role at MaineHealth is designed to facilitate effective communication between healthcare providers and patients with limited English proficiency, specifically in Chinese Cantonese. This position ensures that patients receive care that is respectful and understandable, aligning with their cultural beliefs and primary language. The role is critical in enhancing patient experience and ensuring quality healthcare delivery.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate health-related communication between healthcare providers and Limited English Proficient patients.
- Ensure patients receive understandable and respectful care in accordance with their cultural health beliefs and practices.
- Utilize advanced medical terminology in both source and target languages during interpretation.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology in both Chinese Cantonese and English, evidenced by passing the ICCS online test and completion of 100-hour LANA training or a Medical Degree/Registered Nursing Degree from a US-based institution.
- Completion of a 12-hour LANA training or comparable advanced training in medical interpretation.
- Fluency in both English and Chinese Cantonese, as evidenced by a Pacific (or comparable) Bilingual Language test.
- Basic Interpreter course and documented medical interpreting experience.
