The Sports Maintenance Worker I position at Osceola County is a full-time role that involves performing general maintenance, grounds keeping, and custodial work in various assigned areas. Under general supervision, the employee will be responsible for a daily routine of general and preventative facilities maintenance and repair tasks. The goal is to ensure that public buildings, roadways, and grounds are environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient for both employees and the general public. This entry-level position requires knowledge and proficiency gained through training and experience, and employees will perform related work as directed. Essential job functions include a variety of custodial tasks such as emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, washing windows, dusting and polishing furniture, cleaning vents, air filters, and fans, as well as changing light bulbs. The worker will also perform grounds maintenance tasks including edging, mowing, trimming, waste and litter removal, fertilizing, laying sod, and maintaining sports fields and lawns. The position requires the operation of various lawn care equipment, including manual and riding lawn mowers, sand pros, tractors, and other tools necessary for effective grounds maintenance. In addition to custodial and grounds maintenance duties, the employee will respond to emergency situations to confine or resolve hazardous conditions, perform minor maintenance and repairs on facilities, and participate in work-site safety setups. The role also involves organizing and maintaining inventory of maintenance supplies and tools, painting facilities as needed, and setting up layouts for various sports events. The employee will report any equipment malfunctions and facility maintenance needs to their immediate supervisor and may perform basic electrical assignments as required.
