About the position

Sports Medicine Clinical Instructors in the Sports Medicine program provide sports medicine clinical care to active persons, and further serves as an in-person supervisor for students enrolled in the Masters of Sports Medicine Program at University of Western States. This position is local to events around the Portland, OR, metro-area and Western Oregon.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proper care of sports related injuries and illnesses, including evaluation/diagnosis, first aid, taping, bracing, and emergency care as appropriate under Oregon law for the individual's licensed profession.
  • Properly and effectively communicate to athletes, coaches, staff, and other health care professionals and provide proper healthcare referrals as appropriate to necessitate the standard of care.
  • Oversee students' duty hours onsite at sports medicine events. Provide students with educational opportunities and oversee care provided at events.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training or Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) with a master's degree in sports medicine, exercise science, or closely related discipline.
  • All applicants must have and maintain current CPR/AED Certification.
  • Active Oregon AT license in good standing or ability to attain within 45 days for ATs.
  • Active Oregon DC license in good standing or ability to attain within 45 days for DCs.
  • Minimum one full year of clinical practice in the field of sports medicine or similar patient care.
  • Minimum one year of post-graduate teaching experience at the master's level or higher, such as a TA, Adjunct Faculty, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Athletic Training.
  • Attainment of additional credentials related to sports medicine or exercise science, such as CCSP, CES, PES, etc.
  • At least two years clinical experience in sports medicine.
  • Two years instructional experience in a master's degree program or higher.
  • Prior clinical teaching and/or clinical supervisory experience.
