About the position

WGBA, the NBC affiliate in Green Bay, WI, owned by The E.W. Scripps Company, is searching for a Sports Reporter / Multimedia Journalist. Green Bay, also known as Titletown, is synonymous with tradition, excellence, and winning. This mindset is essential for any reporter in this role. As the official station of the Green Bay Packers, we broadcast all preseason games and many regular season games. The Packers are a way of life in Wisconsin, and our sports team embodies this spirit. However, we are not limited to just the Green and Gold; our team leads the market in sports journalism with ongoing series like Youth Sports: Beyond the Score. We produce live high school football games weekly and are the broadcast partners of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Wisconsin Herd. With the 2025 NFL Draft set to take place in Green Bay, we are looking for a sports reporter who is passionate about local sports and eager to innovate through content and creativity. In this role, you will receive assignments or evaluate news leads and tips to develop story ideas. You will gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interviews, observations, and research. Organizing material, determining slant or emphasis, and writing stories according to prescribed editorial style and format standards will be key responsibilities. You will also shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories, edit videos for all multimedia platforms, and appear on television in live or pre-recorded situations. Live reporting from the site of events or mobile broadcast units will be part of your duties, as well as working cooperatively with photographers assigned to stories. Additionally, you will assist news producers in preparing newscasts and help online staff prepare multimedia stories.

Responsibilities

  • Receive assignment or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
  • Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
  • Organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edit, or assist in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Appear on television in live or pre-recorded situations.
  • Give live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.
  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast.
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred.
  • Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field preferred.
  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits.
