About The Position

The Sports Program Director at the Elmhurst YMCA is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of sports programs, ensuring high-quality and safe programming. This role involves planning, promoting, and coordinating various sports activities, maintaining records, scheduling staff, and ensuring gym maintenance. The director also plays a key role in recruiting, training, and supervising YMCA team members, while networking with community organizations to meet program needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 2 years or more of recreation-related experience.
• Prior team leadership/supervisory experience.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple competing priorities.
• Current relevant sports training and certifications (e.g., CPR for Professional Rescuer) or ability to be certified within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the job.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in community outreach and engagement.
• Knowledge of child abuse prevention policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day operation of sports programs.
• Plan, promote, create, and coordinate sports programs.
• Maintain records and schedule staff for program delivery.
• Ensure proper maintenance of gym facilities.
• Network with public agencies and community organizations to promote programs.
• Recruit, train, and supervise YMCA team members, including instructors and volunteers.
• Conduct staff meetings and in-services as scheduled.
• Evaluate program effectiveness for continuous improvement.
• Assist in developing and managing budgets related to program areas.
• Provide direct service in sports and recreation classes and leagues.
