About the position

The Spring 2025 Chemical Engineer Co-op at LG&E and KU Energy offers students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering an opportunity to gain practical experience in the utility industry. Co-ops will work alongside experienced engineers on various projects, enhancing their analytical and creative thinking skills while contributing to the daily operations and maintenance of power generating stations, environmental compliance, and gas storage operations.

Responsibilities

  • Work on projects related to daily operation and maintenance of power generating stations.
  • Use analytical skills to determine root cause failures and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development and gathering of data for environmental/regulatory compliance reports.
  • Help with the submission of environmental permits and planning documents.
  • Perform site walk downs and chemical inventory reviews.
  • Learn operations involved with natural gas compressor stations and associated equipment.
  • Draft, create, and update spreadsheets and investigate materials/equipment.
  • Assist station engineer with capital projects and develop process flow diagrams.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and suggest improved methods.
  • Gather, correlate, and analyze specific data using established procedures.
  • Perform detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests, and analysis.
  • Support operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis and troubleshooting activities.
  • Assist Senior Engineers with large projects as needed.
  • Plan and control activities to provide an accident-free workplace.
  • Conduct work activities with regard to environmental rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Available full time during the Spring 2025 semester (January - May).
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a declared major in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2.50 GPA.
