About the position

The co-op position at Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company offers students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering the opportunity to gain practical experience in various engineering applications within the utility industry. Co-ops will work alongside experienced engineers, engaging in projects that enhance their analytical and problem-solving skills while contributing to the daily operations and maintenance of power generating stations, environmental compliance, and gas storage operations.

Responsibilities

  • Work on projects related to daily operation and maintenance of power generating stations.
  • Use analytical skills to determine root cause failures and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development and gathering of data for environmental/regulatory compliance reports.
  • Help with the submission of environmental permits and planning documents.
  • Perform site walk downs and chemical inventory reviews.
  • Learn operations involved with natural gas compressor stations and associated equipment.
  • Draft, create, and update spreadsheets and investigate materials/equipment.
  • Assist station engineer with capital projects and develop process flow diagrams.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and suggest improved methods.
  • Gather, correlate, and analyze specific data using established procedures.
  • Perform detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests, and analysis.
  • Support operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Assist Senior Engineers with large projects as needed.
  • Help develop station/engineering goals, objectives, budgets, programs, and procedures.
  • Plan and control activities to provide an accident-free workplace.
  • Conduct work activities with regard to environmental rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a declared major in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2.50 GPA.
  • Available full time during the Spring 2025 semester (January - May).
