About the position

The co-op position at Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company offers students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering the opportunity to gain practical experience in the utility industry. Co-ops will work alongside experienced engineers, engaging in various projects that require analytical skills and creative thinking, while contributing to the daily operations and maintenance of power generating stations, environmental compliance, and gas storage operations.

Responsibilities

  • Work on projects related to daily operation and maintenance of power generating stations.
  • Use analytical skills to determine root cause failures and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development and data gathering for environmental/regulatory compliance reports.
  • Help with the submission of environmental permits and planning documents.
  • Perform site walk downs and chemical inventory reviews.
  • Learn operations involved with natural gas compressor stations and associated equipment.
  • Draft, create, and update spreadsheets and investigate materials/equipment.
  • Assist station engineer with capital projects and develop process flow diagrams.
  • Support operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Assist Senior Engineers with large projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a declared major in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.50.
  • Available full time during the Spring 2025 semester (January - May).
