About the position

The Spring Musical Assistant Choreographer will work closely with the Choreographer to teach and mentor middle to high school students in theatrical dance and movement. This part-time position is focused on preparing students for a spring musical production, requiring strong skills in choreography, rhythm, and the ability to run rehearsals independently when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Choreographer in creating and teaching dance and movement for the production.
  • Run rehearsals and breakout sessions without the Choreographer present.
  • Mentor and teach high school students interested in theatrical production.
  • Ensure that dance and movement reflect the style and concept of the production.
  • Participate in designer run, technical rehearsals, and some performances outside of the regular rehearsal schedule.

Requirements

  • Experience working with middle school to high school aged students in a theatrical setting.
  • Strong ability and willingness to teach and mentor students in theatrical production.
  • Experience with a variety of dance styles, choreography, and theatrical staging.
  • Strong skills in rhythm and musicality.
  • Knowledgeable in theatrical and dance terminology and methodologies.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including moving scenery, jumping, dancing, crawling, and lifting.
