About the position

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the North East Region Field Operations Manager in the Bureau of Land/Land Pollution Control. This role involves planning and directing the activities of field operations staff, managing inspections and enforcement of environmental regulations, and ensuring compliance with State and Federal laws. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in safeguarding environmental quality and managing regional field staff activities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Bureau of Land, Land Pollution Control (LPC), North East Region Field Operations Manager.
  • Plan and direct the activities of FOS staff in the Regional locations of Des Plaines.
  • Manage everyday activities of the regional field staff, including inspection and enforcement of sites.
  • Assist other programs in the Bureau of Land.
  • Set priorities for the region and ensure activities are consistent with State and Federal regulations.
  • Develop and implement regional policies, procedures, and work program activities consistent with BOL/FOS and DLC requirements.
  • Review, evaluate, and interpret relevant regulatory, statutory, technical, and policy requirements.
  • Meet and confer with administrative support staff, DLC, and other Bureaus regarding compliance and enforcement issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in physical or life science, geology, or engineering.
  • Four years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization related to the environmental field.
  • Experience in environmental land pollution control, applying laws, rules, and regulations to specific facilities.
  • Experience supervising professional staff in land pollution control programs.
  • Experience conducting field investigations and inspections related to land pollution control.
  • Experience in communicating or speaking with large groups on controversial topics.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting comprehensive reports and correspondence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills.
  • HAZWOPER certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Experience with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Solid Waste disposal, and Toxic Substances Control Act.
