About the position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented SQA Tester to join their team. This full-time position is focused on ensuring the quality of software through rigorous testing processes, particularly within the Federal Government sector. The role involves managing test events, coordinating with developers, and leading testing efforts in accordance with established standards and documentation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both automated and manual testing, with specific experience in VA systems and Agile environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and help staff test events with appropriate resources.
  • Coordinate with developers and functional analysts to create test plans and test scripts in accordance with VA-mandated testing documentation standards and templates.
  • Lead and conduct testing according to Master Test Plan specifications that provide tracking, monitoring, and reporting of results.
  • Review and approve test reports.
  • Monitor and update defect and bug reports.
  • Create test reports.

Requirements

  • Outstanding communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of Automated and Manual testing policies and procedures.
  • Experience testing with MUMPS, VistA, and other VA systems.
  • Experience with Electronic Data Interchanges (EDIs) and financial transaction systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to overall company success.
  • Experience in the coordination and management of test events in accordance with approved test plans, procedures, and scripts.
  • Knowledge and skills to ensure that test environments are set up accurately.
  • Ability to create test reports.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Comprehensive technical expertise on IT products, operating systems, software, hardware, systems and networks, and specialized environments.
  • Experience in writing or assisting in the development of test plans and test procedures.
  • Ability to manage the defect database under the guidance of senior Quality Assurance (QA) engineers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with remote U.S. based teams (Not Offshore teams).
