About the position

We are looking for a visionary Lead/Principal Data Scientist to drive data-centric initiatives in the financial services sector. In this key role, you will lead complex data science projects, design advanced analytical models, and provide actionable insights to guide strategic decisions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product, engineering, and compliance—to address challenging business problems and achieve measurable results.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Project Leadership: Manage all phases of data science projects, from problem definition and data collection to model development, validation, and deployment.
  • Advanced Modeling Expertise: Develop and implement state-of-the-art statistical and machine learning models (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, time series analysis, NLP).
  • Data Mastery: Extract, transform, and analyze large datasets using SQL and related tools to ensure data readiness for analysis.
  • Clear Communication of Insights: Create compelling visualizations and reports using tools like Tableau, effectively communicating findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders to identify business needs, outline project requirements, and translate analytical insights into practical solutions.
  • Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing: Guide and develop junior data scientists, fostering a collaborative and growth-focused team culture.
  • Commitment to Innovation: Stay updated on advancements in data science and machine learning, integrating emerging techniques and technologies to refine models and processes.
  • Infrastructure Development: Support the evolution of data science tools and infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Compliance Adherence: Ensure all projects comply with regulatory standards in the financial services industry.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Master’s or undergraduate degree in Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Industry Experience: Minimum 4+ years (Principal) or 2+ years (Lead) in data analyst roles within the financial services domain.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert-level SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, and automation.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in developing, validating, and deploying machine learning models.
  • Effective Communication: Ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Analytical Acumen: Exceptional problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of financial data and concepts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Financial Services: Required.
  • Experience in Mortgage Operations: Specifically defaults/loss mitigation is a plus.
  • Compliance Monitoring and Reporting: Familiarity with compliance-related monitoring and reporting.
  • Cloud-Based Platforms: Experience with AWS, Snowflake, or GCP.
  • Real-Time Data Analysis: Capabilities in real-time data analysis.
  • Risk Management: Background in risk management initiatives.
