About the position

The SQL Database Administrator is responsible for managing and operating Microsoft SQL Server database instances, ensuring optimal performance through configuration settings, backups, and automation. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while providing excellent customer service. The administrator will also engage in research for technical solutions and share knowledge within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate Microsoft SQL Server database instances.
  • Optimize configuration settings for performance.
  • Perform database backups and restores.
  • Develop and run optimization tasks.
  • Compose automation scripts for repetitive tasks.
  • Research viable technical and/or non-technical solutions.
  • Share knowledge with the team and leverage internal networks.
  • Execute and deliver on day-to-day activities independently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer or information sciences or similar field preferred.
  • Experience in managing SQL Server databases and T-SQL programming.
  • Knowledge of third form normalization design principles and indexing best practices.
  • Experience with the most recent releases of SQL Server including Integration Services, Reporting Services, and Analysis Services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid MS SQL Server DBA experience (SQL 2012-2019).
  • Strong Database Design skills.
  • Expertise in SQL Statement Tuning.
  • Experience with native transactional Data Replication.
  • Experience in configuring Always-On Availability Groups (including Windows Clustering).
  • Experience with deploying and managing Cloud Database Services (AWS/Azure preferred).
  • Experience with Cloud automation deployment (e.g., Terraform for SQL RDS).
  • Good understanding of networking concepts in cloud (VPCs, Subnets, Security Groups, etc).
  • Strong T-SQL Programming capabilities.
  • PowerShell and/or Python scripting capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Database technology (versions 11g, 12c, 18c, and 19c).
  • Familiarity with Datadog as a monitoring and analytics tool.
  • Familiarity with MySQL and PostgreSQL.
