About the position
The SQL Data Engineer role involves collaborating with researchers to gather requirements, designing and building data models in SQL, and enabling staff to create their own reporting queries. The position also includes configuring and optimizing a cloud data warehouse and maintaining a data dictionary to support reporting needs.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with researchers on requirements gathering
- Design and build data models in SQL, using various tools
- Enable staff to write their own reporting queries and build their own reports
- Configure and optimize cloud data warehouse, including permissions, compute and storage parameters, and table schemas
- Debug and improve performance of existing queries
- Maintain a data dictionary and field questions about how to best leverage our data warehouse for reporting purposes
Requirements
- 3-5 years of SQL experience
- Experience with virtual data warehouses (ideally Snowflake or Redshift)
- Expertise with data modeling & transformation tools and methodologies
- Expertise with data modeling approaches and philosophies (e.g., Kimball)
- Knowledge of Python data transformations and manipulations
- Experience with Analytics and/or Business Intelligence tools
