About the position

The SQL/Data Engineer is responsible for developing and programming IT solutions using Python to enhance customer experience applications at Florida Blue. This role involves documentation, unit testing, peer code reviews, and maintenance of applications, as well as evaluating and performance testing purchased products. The engineer will also implement IT controls to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of applications and data.

Responsibilities

• Develop and program IT solutions using Python for customer experience applications.
• Document the system and conduct unit tests and peer code reviews.
• Maintain internally developed applications and evaluate purchased products.
• Implement IT controls to protect application and data integrity.
• Develop REST APIs and process batch files using Python.
• Schedule batch processes and ensure effective coding design and documentation protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in technical design and coding in the IT industry.
• Experience with UNIX or Linux shell scripting.
• Advanced SQL scripting and querying skills.
• Strong analytical skills with large data sets (millions of records).
• Experience with unit testing, release procedures, and change management.
• Excellent communication skills for conveying technical information clearly.
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Working knowledge of PySpark/Spark/Python.
• Experience in various domains such as Health Care or Financial services.
• Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies.
