The SQL Database Administrator (DBA) position involves managing and supporting SQL Server environments across various versions, including SQL 2000, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2016. The role requires installation and configuration of SQL Server, along with providing 24/7 support and on-call assistance for migration and monthly rotations. The DBA will be responsible for SQL deployments, application code releases, and conducting code reviews weekly to ensure smooth operations. Performance tuning and optimization (PTO) are critical aspects of the role, utilizing native monitoring and troubleshooting tools to enhance database performance. In addition to performance tuning, the DBA will handle backups, restores, and recovery models, ensuring data integrity and availability. Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server is essential. The role also requires experience with Windows Server, including Active Directory, and familiarity with IIS servers. The DBA will be tasked with upgrading SQL Server software, applying service packs and patches, and managing VMware servers. Excellent production support is expected, along with the ability to contact Microsoft for technical support when necessary. Data migration from various sources such as Excel, flat files, and Oracle to MS SQL Server will be performed using tools like SSIS, BCP, and DTS utility. The DBA will also be responsible for database monitoring, administration, upgrades, and disaster recovery planning and testing. This includes maintaining multiple environments (development, testing, and production), patching, troubleshooting, and managing user access and security configurations. The DBA will collaborate with remote DBA services and cross-functional IS teams to ensure database stability and performance, while also developing expert knowledge of applications to provide high levels of user support. The role may require participation in production database support on weekends, and the DBA will be involved in long-range planning for new projects and facilities, advising on database procedures and methods.
