About The Position
We are seeking a SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team at 1600 Abbey Ln, East Lansing, MI. This position is primarily focused on managing our Sybase and SQL Server environments, with a strong emphasis on transitioning from Sybase to a pure SQL Server setup over the next three years. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Sybase ASE 15.7 and SQL Server, as well as experience in UNIX environments, particularly in running and developing CRON jobs. This role is not a short-term contract; we are looking for someone who can potentially transition to a full-time employee status if desired. The DBA will be expected to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a hybrid work model that includes two days on-site. The DBA will be responsible for maintaining the Sybase environment, which is currently running on Solaris in an X86 hardware setup, and assisting with the SQL Server environment, which includes mixed versions of SQL Server on various Windows Server versions. The selected candidate will also be involved in disaster recovery processes and will assist with tasks that occur during the week, such as weekly data fixes. The position may require participation in an on-call rotation during weekends, although overtime and weekend work are rare and must be pre-approved. The primary goal is to support the senior DBAs and help streamline operations, particularly during after-hours implementations. This role is critical as we move towards our goal of migrating from Sybase to SQL Server, and the selected candidate will play a key part in this transition. Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in formal change control environments are essential for success in this position.
