About the position

The SQL Database Administrator will engineer and support database systems, focusing on analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, and upgrades. This role emphasizes the application of architectural and engineering best practices to manage complex systems, ensuring infrastructure availability, automation, and database security.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability.
  • Implement and manage SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (AOAG) and other high availability and disaster recovery (HADR) solutions.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Ansible, and other tools to streamline database management tasks.
  • Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and resource management.
  • Develop and implement robust backup and recovery procedures.
  • Ensure database security through the application of best practices and adherence to compliance requirements.
  • Perform regular health checks and maintenance to prevent potential problems.
  • Collaborate with application support and development staff to support application development, deployment, and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in SQL Server Administration and Engineering.
  • Experience managing on-prem SQL Server and Azure environments.
  • Basic automation skills in PowerShell, Jenkins, Ansible, Gitlab, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with MSBI - SSIS integration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of Windows Server administration.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to multiple levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work well with teams not centrally located.
  • Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work with limited set of requirements.
  • Desire to train/mentor other team members.

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay of $50 - $65 per hour.
  • Possibility of extension or conversion to permanent position after 8 months.
