About the position

Baesman Group, a nationally recognized provider of direct-to-customer marketing strategy and multi-channel execution, is seeking an experienced SQL Database Developer to join our Information Technology Team. The SQL Database Developer will work within a small IT Team to serve internal and external clients for customer loyalty and engagement programs, operations/manufacturing systems, and in-house/custom-built applications. This role is critical in designing, creating, modifying, maintaining, monitoring, securing, and optimizing database structures including tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures. The Database Developer will be responsible for daily complex ad-hoc query writing, SQL job monitoring and processing, ETL development, report writing, and MS BI management. This position also provides the primary report writing capability within the organization for production management reporting and data extraction activities from various systems (both internal and external). The SQL Database Developer will help facilitate data-based quality control efforts for data coming in to, and out of, our and our client's systems. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be a fast learner, as the role requires daily interaction with the Lead Application Developer, internal teams of account managers and data analysts, and directly with external clients. Fluency in English is required, along with strong personal and professional skills. The role is expected to interact in meetings, ask insightful questions, learn quickly, and be on-camera when working remotely. This is a hybrid role with two days spent in our Columbus, OH headquarters, and the remaining three days in a work-from-home remote setting.

Responsibilities

• Lead the installation, configuration, design, and testing of new client and production-focused databases supporting all data-related activities.
• Identify user requirements, set up database structures, test, and coordinate modifications to these systems.
• Create and maintain data loads from external clients via SSIS and manipulate data using ETL/SSIS and SQL stored procedures.
• Complete daily complex 'ad hoc' queries and report requests for delivery to internal and external teams.
• Create and maintain data views to support the internal SAS Analytics team.
• Implement database performance monitoring, mapping of conceptual designs, refining logical designs, data modeling, maintaining data standards and protection (encryption), writing database documentation, defining access control and permissions, managing backup and recovery paths, and participating in capacity planning.
• Provide ongoing maintenance of all organizational production and administrative data sources to ensure data integrity and database security.
• Troubleshoot database errors, indexing, speed, or other concerns.
• Coordinate with the VP, Technology, and Lead Developer to ensure all data storage and retrieval capabilities are properly supported and maintained within our IT infrastructure.
• Produce and maintain database documentation (e.g. data dictionary, Entity Relationship Diagrams) as required for proper system maintenance and enhancements.
• Lead the discovery, mock-up, creation, testing, scheduling, and ongoing revision of SQL/SSRS-based business reports.
• Maintain multiple SQL server instances including SQL and OS versions, compatibility, upgrades, and working with external vendors to ensure functionality.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; or five to seven years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Mastery of database administration and development.
• Mastery of structured query language (SQL), SSIS, SSRS, ETL, and report writing.
• Mastery of creation and ongoing management of stored procedures and SQL scripting.
• Comprehensive knowledge of database security, backups, and recovery.
• Comfort with both on-prem and cloud-based SQL deployments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of data analysis, modeling, and database design techniques.
• Skill in performing complex and specialized database functions.
• Experience with Snowflake and MS Azure is a plus.
• Skill in evaluating changes in the production environment and anticipating resources needed to meet those changes.
• Strong experience with reporting tools (SQL, SSRS, Crystal Reports, BI, etc.).
• Experience with high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.
• Ability to speak fluent English.
• Ability to learn quickly, use ticketing systems effectively, and communicate thoroughly.
• High motivation to deliver strong results on fixed timelines.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle rapidly changing work requirements and priorities.
• Ability to consistently use team project and collaboration software tools including Jira, MS Teams, etc.
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to continually prioritize work to meet changing work conditions and customer requirements.
• Ability to work independently against project milestones to achieve objectives with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication and reasoning skills.
• Excellent mathematical skills.

Nice-to-haves

• MCSE: Data Platform Certification is desired, but not required.
