About the position

The SQL DBA position is a new role within a mid-size, family-owned company located in Des Moines. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with a small, dedicated IT team, focusing on the administration and optimization of MS-SQL databases. The role involves a variety of responsibilities including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of MS-SQL servers and databases, as well as developing reports and business intelligence solutions.

Responsibilities

• Installation, configuration, and upgrading of MS-SQL server, SSRS, SSIS, and related products.
• Troubleshooting, monitoring, and general maintenance of MS-SQL server and databases.
• Writing, reviewing, and recommending optimization techniques for SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Writing complex MS-SQL scripts for database merges or fixes.
• Developing Business Intelligence packages using SQL and SSIS by collecting requirements from customers.
• Developing SSRS Reports based on customer requirements.
• Collaborating with management and support to identify and resolve database-related problems.
• Designing, developing, optimizing, and performance tuning of databases.
• Investigating, recommending, and helping implement industry best practice ETL processes for databases.
• Producing documentation to support troubleshooting of MS-SQL issues.
• Implementing MS-SQL database security as per customer requirements.
• Testing and troubleshooting developed custom software for SQL-related issues.
• Driving to various R&R properties and locations as required.

Requirements

• Practical experience in troubleshooting and repairing corrupted MS-SQL databases.
• Practical experience in monitoring and tuning MS-SQL server/databases.
• Hands-on experience in developing reports on SSRS.
• Proven track record of developing Business Intelligence using SSIS packages or stored procedures.
• Hands-on experience with report optimization techniques on SQL server.
• Hands-on experience in allocating hardware resources and configurations needed in MS-SQL installation.
• Hands-on experience with MS-SQL commands, stored procedures, and triggers.
• Experience in managing MS-SQL database security.
• Experience with overall system administration.
• Knowledge of implementing disaster recovery strategies.
• Understanding of network security.
