About the position

System One is seeking a SQL Database Administrator for a long-term, hybrid-onsite opportunity in Lenexa, KS. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in database administration, management, and optimization, particularly with Microsoft technologies. This role is critical in ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of databases, as well as troubleshooting any issues that arise and providing efficient solutions. The SQL DBA will be responsible for administering, maintaining, developing, and implementing policies and procedures that ensure the security and integrity of the company database. In this position, the SQL DBA will perform various database administration tasks, including backup, recovery, performance tuning, and space management using Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies. The role also involves implementing and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. The SQL DBA will assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers, working closely with IT managers, other DBAs, and software developers. Additionally, the SQL DBA will respond to and resolve database access and performance issues, monitor database system details, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements. The role requires conducting research and making recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, develop, and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company database.
  • Perform database administration tasks, including backup, recovery, performance tuning, and space management using Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies.
  • Implement and oversee database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.
  • Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Work closely with IT managers, DBAs, and software developers.
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in database administration, information technology, database architecture, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
  • Experience with data management and data processing flowcharting techniques.
  • Knowledge of database design and scripting using SQL.
  • Familiarity with database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.
  • Familiarity and experience with Azure SQL is a plus.
  • Must be detail-oriented and logical.
