About the position

The Senior SQL Database Administrator will be responsible for building, maintaining, and securing database systems, ensuring their smooth operation, and facilitating the transition to cloud-native services. This role requires a high level of expertise in SQL Server administration, performance optimization, and collaboration with development teams to enhance database solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Servers, databases, and related components.
  • Implement and manage database security, including user permissions, roles, and access controls.
  • Perform regular database backups and restores to maintain data integrity and ensure availability.
  • Monitor database performance, optimize queries, and tune servers for peak efficiency.
  • Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions, such as clustering, mirroring, and log shipping.
  • Automate routine tasks, including backups and index maintenance, using scripts and SQL Server Agent jobs.
  • Collaborate with data and application teams to develop roadmaps for migrating on-premise SQL Server solutions to cloud-native services.
  • Develop and enforce database server version control policies.
  • Work closely with application developers to design and implement new databases or modify existing ones.
  • Apply data modeling techniques and database normalization to ensure optimal performance.
  • Review and implement DDL scripts from application development teams, ensuring performance and data integrity.
  • Assist developers with complex queries, query tuning, and schema refinements.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring solutions for critical databases and database processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Apply third-party application database update scripts, patches, and security best practices.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for database objects, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to team members to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Proactively monitor SQL Server maintenance tasks, troubleshoot issues, and implement backup and recovery methods that meet business Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an enterprise SQL Server DBA.
  • Strong preference for candidates with Azure DBA certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate).
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting Windows failover cluster-based Always-on HA architecture in production.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience developing and supporting reports and packages with SSRS and SSIS.
  • At least 1 year of experience migrating SQL Server HA architecture to serverless Azure native SQL database services.
  • Experience supporting highly available enterprise-scale Azure environments is highly desirable.
