About the position

The Senior SQL Developer / Data Modeler role is a critical position within the Research Management Systems team, focusing on the development of a next-generation software solution to support investment teams in making data-driven decisions. This position involves overseeing data modeling, performance tuning, and providing guidance to SQL engineers, ensuring optimized database operations and smooth integration with reporting systems. The role is part of a multi-year initiative aimed at enhancing database performance and streamlining data models.

Responsibilities

• Provide recommendations and oversight on data model improvements, including creating and optimizing tables.
• Collaborate with SQL engineers to ensure smooth implementation of model changes.
• Work closely with development teams (API developers, database engineers, front-end developers) in smaller pods.
• Provide feedback and oversight, ensuring teams follow through with recommended actions and meet performance expectations.
• Evaluate database performance and identify areas for improvement, ensuring alignment with downstream reporting and applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data access and performance.

Requirements

• 7+ years in SQL development or database management roles.
• Strong experience with Azure SQL databases is essential.
• Proven ability to lead and communicate effectively, taking on an authoritative role in providing guidance and recommendations.
• Familiarity with backend systems and internal customer-facing operations.
• BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional settings.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with API development or function apps, bridging backend work with API developers.
• Familiarity with cascading system architecture and communication between distributed systems.
