About the position

The SQL Developer position is a contract role focused on developing and maintaining SQL-based reporting software, particularly using dbt and Snowflake. The developer will be responsible for establishing technical requirements, creating complex SQL statements, and ensuring adherence to development standards. This role requires collaboration with PowerBI developers and involves various phases of the software development cycle, including testing and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and document the technical requirements for reporting software including tables, views, report design, unit test plans, and test cases.
  • Assist in all phases of the reporting software development cycle including requirements gathering, analysis, design, testing, implementation, and production support.
  • Create and maintain complex SQL statements to generate tables and views for PowerBI developers.
  • Facilitate SQL design sessions and code walk-throughs to ensure adherence to development standards using dbt.
  • Develop and maintain documentation on all database models, tables, guidelines, methods, and standards.
  • Provide recommendations for development standards and application architecture based on best practices.
  • Conduct unit testing and assist in user testing of SQL statements or report modifications.
  • Train other staff members on development processes and standards.

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience as a SQL Developer.
  • 3 years of experience with dbt.
  • 3 years of experience with Snowflake.
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining complex SQL statements.
  • Knowledge of Git, pull requests, Visual Studio Code, and dbt.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PowerBI development.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
