About the position

The SQL Developer at Estes Forwarding Worldwide (EFW) is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining relational databases and data warehouses. This role focuses on optimizing SQL queries, implementing ETL processes, and ensuring database performance. The developer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, troubleshoot database issues, and provide support through Jira, while adhering to best practices in database management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain relational databases and data warehouses.
  • Create efficient database schemas, tables, indexes, and constraints to support business applications.
  • Implement database objects such as stored procedures, triggers, and functions to automate processes and enforce business rules.
  • Participate in code reviews and commit changes to source control (GitHub).
  • Performance tune existing SQL objects using all available metrics and tools.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze large volumes of data.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in SQL queries and database operations.
  • Tune database configurations and query execution plans for optimal performance.
  • Design and implement data integration solutions to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into the database.
  • Develop ETL processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Document database designs, schemas, and processes to ensure knowledge transfer and maintain system documentation.
  • Proactively monitor SQL Agent Jobs for failures using all available applications and tools.
  • Respond to support requests using Jira Service Management and Jira Cloud.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and project managers to clarify requirements on support requests.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and holiday support.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in SQL development and database administration.
  • Proficiency in SQL programming, including complex query writing, optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with relational database management operations for Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of data modeling techniques and database design principles.
  • Experience with ETL tools and processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SQL Server upgrades preferred.
  • Familiarity with database administration tasks such as backup, recovery, and security.
