About the position

The SQL Developer position at the Department of Health/Mental Hygiene involves designing, developing, and maintaining SQL databases to support applications and data analysis. The role requires collaboration with data analysts and IT teams to create efficient and scalable database solutions that meet business requirements, ensuring data integrity and performance while optimizing database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain SQL databases to support applications and data analysis.
  • Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and scripts to ensure data integrity and performance.
  • Optimize database performance by tuning queries and designing indexing strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement database solutions.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform database migrations, upgrades, and backup/restoration processes.
  • Analyze and improve existing database systems for scalability and performance.
  • Ensure database security and data privacy compliance.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in computer science and three years of relevant experience in IT, including applications development and database administration, with at least 18 months in a managerial capacity; or
  • A baccalaureate degree and four years of relevant experience; or
  • A four-year high school diploma and six years of relevant experience; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above, with at least three years of relevant experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Proven experience as an SQL Developer or similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server).
  • Experience with database design, normalization, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and data integration.
  • Understanding of data security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with cloud databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and big data technologies.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and their integration with SQL databases.
  • Certifications in database technologies (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle) are a plus.
