About the position

Edgesource Corporation is seeking a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our project team in Washington, DC. The primary responsibility of this role is to monitor and maintain SQL Server databases that support our government client. The DBA will be tasked with ensuring the performance, security, and reliability of the database systems in a multi-server environment consisting of SQL Server 2005 and 2008 servers on both Windows 2003 and 2008 platforms. This includes working in production, staging, and laboratory environments. The DBA will assist with certification and accreditation processes, as well as security remediation for various business applications, focusing on database-related tasks. The role requires the development and implementation of improved processes for server maintenance, backup and recovery, failover, and clustering. The DBA will also meet with both internal and external teams to gather requirements for upcoming database needs, implement those requirements, and monitor for specific functional and performance targets. Documentation is a critical aspect of this role, as the DBA will be responsible for maintaining documentation for maintenance processes and server configurations, including how to configure and current configurations. Additionally, the DBA will support data calls and specific applications as needed from both the database and application server standpoint.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and proactively maintain a multi-server environment consisting of SQL Server 2005 and 2008 servers on both Windows 2003 and 2008 platforms in production, staging, and laboratory environments.
  • Assist with certification and accreditation as well as security remediation for various business applications with a focus on database related tasks.
  • Develop and implement improved processes for server maintenance, back-up and recovery, fail-over, and clustering.
  • Meet with both internal and external teams to gather requirements for upcoming database needs, implementation of those requirements, testing, and monitoring for specific functional and performance targets.
  • Maintain documentation for maintenance processes and server configurations (both how to configure and current configurations).
  • Support data calls and specific applications as needed from both the database and application server standpoint.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of SQL Server database administration, performance tuning, clustering, and security experience.
  • Experience creating and maintaining SSIS packages.
  • Ability to troubleshoot client/server and linked server connections.
  • Experience implementing Transparent Data Encryption.
  • Assist with application account resets.
  • Generate monthly COLA revenue reports.
  • Experience with database/datacenter migrations.
  • Restorations via SMSQL for SnapManager or NetApp SnapDrive.
  • Database performance tuning and collaboration with developers to improve SQL procedures.
  • Experience with securing systems to specifications for information assurance.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting process improvement, tactical problem solving, and presenting technical information.
  • Dedication to quality and solid interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and wear many hats to resolve situations facing the team.
  • Experience with T-SQL, .NET, logical/physical modeling is a plus.
  • MCDBA Certification is a plus.
  • 1-2 years of server administration, server virtualization, and Active Directory/Global Policy experience is a plus.
