About the position

The SQL Server Database Administrator position at IIT involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities centered around the technical design, configuration, and management of SQL Server databases. The role requires expertise in database technical design, storage configuration, space management, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting database issues and ensuring optimal performance through ongoing tuning of databases. Additionally, the role includes the development and maintenance of integrated databases, providing technical assistance in the design of new systems, and modifications to existing systems, including data modeling. The SQL Server Database Administrator will also engage in database programming, utilizing stored procedures, triggers, and similar development approaches. The position requires the installation of new database versions and upgrades, as well as support for development, test, and production environments. The candidate will be expected to develop and maintain database administration procedures and operations to optimize database availability, evaluate processes, and solicit feedback to identify areas for improvement in transaction optimization. Furthermore, the role includes assisting with impact analysis of changes to database objects, ensuring that all modifications align with best practices and organizational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Database technical design, storage configuration, space management, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, troubleshooting.
  • Development and maintenance of integrated databases and technical assistance in the design of new systems and/or modifications to existing systems including data modeling.
  • Database programming and the use of stored procedures, triggers, or similar development approaches.
  • Monitor performance and provide ongoing tuning of databases.
  • Install new database versions and upgrades.
  • Support for development, test and production environments.
  • Develop and maintain database administration procedures and operations to optimize database availability.
  • Evaluate and solicit feedback on processes to identify areas of improvement for optimizing transactions.
  • Assist with impact analysis of changes to database objects.

Requirements

  • Experience with entity-relationship diagrams and relational database development tools.
  • Experience in Structured Analysis and Design techniques, data dictionaries, database schemas and database security.
  • Experience in investigating, analyzing and modeling corporate data, including corporate databases, application systems and associated interfaces.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, and three years or more of related full-time, paid experience as SQL Server administrator.
  • Strong initiative and leadership skills, strong work ethic, responsibility and dedication.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
  • Expert knowledge in Windows Server, SQL Server, Azure cloud platform and specifically SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage account and Azure security fundamentals.
  • Experience implementing High availability (Always-on).
  • Strong Knowledge of SQL.
  • Knowledge of Python is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on logical troubleshooting.
  • Certifications in Microsoft technologies are preferred.
