About the position

Hampton Lumber is seeking a talented and motivated SQL Database Developer to join our team. As a SQL Database Developer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining SQL Server databases, data warehouses, and ERP systems. Your work will ensure data integrity and support our business operations effectively. You will have the opportunity to analyze existing SQL queries for performance improvements and suggest new queries to enhance the efficiency and speed of data retrieval, which is vital for better decision-making and operational efficiency. In this position, you will also be responsible for developing and maintaining reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Crystal Reports, and Management Reporter for Microsoft Dynamics GP. This will provide actionable insights for the business and help in driving strategic initiatives. You will lead database design efforts and ensure a consistent technical approach within the department, fostering a cohesive and efficient development environment. Additionally, you will establish, maintain, and apply coding and configuration standards and best practices to ensure high-quality and maintainable code. This will help in reducing technical debt and improving long-term project success. Documentation will also be a key part of your role, as you will create basic how-to documents, design documentation, performance reporting, and operational procedures to support knowledge sharing and consistency across the team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases, warehouses, and ERP systems to ensure data integrity and support business operations.
  • Analyze existing SQL queries for performance improvements and suggest new queries to enhance the efficiency and speed of data retrieval.
  • Develop and maintain reports using SSRS, Crystal Reports, and Management Reporter for Microsoft Dynamics GP to provide actionable insights for the business.
  • Lead database design and ensure a consistent technical approach within the department, fostering a cohesive and efficient development environment.
  • Establish, maintain, and apply coding/configuration standards and best practices to ensure high quality and maintainable code.
  • Document processes in the form of how-to documents, design documentation, performance reporting, and operational procedures.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a SQL developer.
  • Strong knowledge of MS SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and Crystal reporting.
  • Strong collaboration skills, working directly with non-technical stakeholders on discussing requirements, tasks, and implementation.
  • Proven ability to work as a team and assimilate to different roles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some experience in Power BI is preferred.
