About the position

As an SQL Server Database Programmer and Administrator at Charleston Coffee Roasters, you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of SQL Server databases. This role involves working closely with development and IT teams to ensure database performance, security, and reliability, while implementing best practices for efficient system operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement relational databases to meet business requirements.
  • Create and maintain database schemas, tables, views, and indexes.
  • Write, optimize, and debug complex SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • Analyze query performance and optimize for efficiency and speed.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade database management systems (DBMS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions as required.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly test backup and recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Ensure databases are secure and protected against unauthorized access or breaches.
  • Plan and execute data migration tasks, ensuring data integrity and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Forecast, plan, and allocate resources for optimal database performance and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize downtime and service disruption.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with development teams for SQL query tuning and schema design.
  • Work with IT staff and application support teams for seamless integration and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Proficiency in DBMS such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and database performance tuning techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot database issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in database management and documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support cross-functional project teams.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and rapidly changing environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Oracle DBA, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) are a plus.
