About the position
The SQL Server DBA position is a senior role focused on database administration, requiring extensive experience in managing both on-premises and cloud databases. The role involves ensuring the integrity and high availability of database environments, supporting critical systems, and collaborating with various teams to maintain and enhance database implementations. The DBA will also be responsible for performance tuning, monitoring, and compliance with security requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of database environments.
- Ensure integrity and high availability of database environments.
- Build and manage on-prem VM and cloud implementations.
- Set up monitoring and alerting systems for database performance.
- Provide application consulting and performance tuning.
- Conduct version upgrades and automations for database systems.
- Manage backup and recovery processes and vendor coordination.
- Mentor team members and share knowledge within the DBA team.
- Collaborate with project teams and application contacts to support current and new implementations.
- Review new enhancements and features for future use.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA.
- 5+ years experience with SQL Server HADR technologies like Always On, Replication, and/or Clustering.
- 2+ years of experience with Azure Cloud, specifically with SQL Server VM setup for resiliency and High Availability.
- Familiarity with SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, and data management tools like IBM VDP.
- Advanced knowledge of performance tuning, monitoring, and observability.
- Experience in handling physical/logical backups & restores and data refreshes.
- Experience with Linux/Unix shell commands or Windows PowerShell or Python.
- Experience in OS fine tuning regarding Network I/O and Disk.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with automation via Ansible, Terraform.
- Experience with CI/CD deployments using GHA, GitHub, Jenkins.
