About the position

The Senior Accountant I at Duquesne Light Company plays a crucial role in providing financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounts and preparing monthly financial statements. This position is responsible for the monthly accounting close for both regulated and non-regulated entities, ensuring compliance with finance policies, evaluating internal controls, and assisting with various accounting functions and special projects.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monthly accounting close, including preparing general ledger entries, analyzing discrepancies, and making adjustments based on professional standards and internal policies.
  • Assist the Accounting team with monthly financial close, including preparation and analysis for monthly close meetings and external survey requests.
  • Ensure compliance with all Finance policies and procedures applicable to the position, including the annual update of related desk manuals.
  • Perform ad hoc detailed analysis of accounts, investigating variances to budget and prior year.
  • Assist with special projects, including external government surveys and new system implementations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or relevant discipline required.
  • Three or more years of Corporate Accounting or Month-End Accounting Close Experience required.
  • CPA certificate or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficient with accounting software (Solomon and/or Netsuite preferred) and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of regulatory and non-regulatory financial close processes.
  • Experience with revenue analysis and financial reporting.
