About the position

The Senior Accountant at Kirtland Credit Union is responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining reliable accounting information to support management planning and decision-making. This role ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and involves conducting special accounting studies and analyses as requested by management. The position supports the credit union's mission and strategic goals while overseeing day-to-day operations in the accounting department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist AVP of Accounting & Comptroller in overseeing the day-to-day operations in the accounting department.
  • Maintain complete, timely and accurate records for various GL accounts or activities of the CU and manage reporting of same.
  • Accurately prepare monthly General ledger reconciliations as assigned by no later than 30 days after month end.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and research various subsidiary ledgers with the general ledger including fixed assets, credit cards, investments, loan, mortgages, benefits, bank reconciliations, correspondent accounts, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Responsible for project development, leading and implementing projects assigned in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain procedures and support implementations of process improvements while utilizing quality tools and functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business from an accredited college or university.
  • Successful completion of a minimum 15 credit hours of accounting courses.
  • Four years of recent experience in accounting.
  • Two years' experience in reviewing and finalizing financials or project and development implementations.
  • Advanced degree may be substituted for experience.
  • Proficient Excel and data management skills required.
  • Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Adobe and Word.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP.
  • Must understand full cycle of accounting from transactions to financial statements.
  • Basic skills with identifying and assessing member needs; creating, building and maintaining strong relationships gaining the member's trust.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills.
