About the position

The Senior Accountant at Smurfit WestRock will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and ongoing accounting for multiple divisions within the company. This position requires a self-starter with strong leadership and communication skills to effectively interact with various levels of the organization. The role is hybrid, currently requiring three days in the office, with a potential increase to four days in the near future.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review accruals for payroll, utilities, holiday, vacation, temp labor, and other miscellaneous accruals related to divisional locations.
• Review and analyze financial data for plants outside expected tolerance range.
• Ensure accurate GL coding by reviewing JDE.
• Act as the point of contact for divisional locations regarding accounting-related questions.
• Comply with SOX controls and GAAP to ensure solid internal control.
• Lead special projects to drive continuous process improvement.
• Provide regular updates to management.
• Prepare and review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations within Blackline.
• Perform special accounting projects as assigned.
• Assist in audit processes through the preparation of schedules and communication with internal and external auditors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting.
• 5-7 years of accounting experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
• Month-end close experience.
• Deadline driven.
• Financial expertise in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to build effective teams and support plant initiatives.
• Experience with JD Edwards, Hyperion, and Blackline preferred.
• High level of Microsoft Office proficiency, with advanced Excel skills required.
