About the position
The Senior Accountant role at Robert Half in Chestertown, Maryland, focuses on maintaining the general ledger, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, performing account reconciliations, and supporting the preparation of financial reports. This position is crucial for ensuring compliance with accounting principles and improving financial reporting efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Carry out the maintenance of the general ledger, which involves the preparation and posting of journal entries.
- Provide assistance during the month-end and year-end close processes through the preparation of necessary adjusting entries and reconciliations.
- Perform account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, which include cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Provide support during internal and external audits, including preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Manage the fixed asset accounting process that includes tracking capital expenditures, recording depreciation, and performing asset disposals.
- Conduct variance analysis on general ledger accounts and provide explanations for significant fluctuations.
- Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Continuously seek ways to improve efficiency in accounting processes and financial reporting.
- Assist with the preparation and filing of tax returns, regulatory reports, and compliance filings.
Requirements
- Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Proven experience as a Senior Accountant, preferably within the manufacturing industry
- Strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
- Proficiency in MS Office, with exceptional skills in Excel
- Experience with accounting software, ERP systems is a plus
- Demonstrated skills in performing bank reconciliations and month-end close procedures
- Knowledge of manufacturing assembly processes and their cost implications would be beneficial
- Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
- Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is a plus.
