About the position

The Senior Accountant at Greenbrier Companies plays a crucial role in the finance team, responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and maintaining general ledger accounts. This position involves overseeing month-end and year-end closing processes, supporting third-party customers with accurate invoicing, and addressing financial inquiries to enhance customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrating strong analytical skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and journal entries posting for multiple legal entities in accordance with US GAAP
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations, variance, and trend analysis
  • Handle complex lease modifications, such as early terminations, extensions, and variable lease payments, while ensuring accurate financial reporting
  • Research and provide guidance on complex lease-related transactions, such as sale-leaseback arrangements, leasing pools, or subleasing
  • Oversee accounting processes for various legal entities in compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., ASC 842, ASC 606, etc.)
  • Gain understanding of contracts and agreements in order to apply proper accounting, manage lease documentation, including the tracking of lease obligation and payments
  • Review billing instructions for accuracy and completeness, prepare monthly customer invoicing and collection reports for the Company
  • Prepare distribution report, supporting invoice and cash collection schedule for third-party customers
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and addressing any audit findings or recommendations
  • Prepare and report debt-related reports and covenant compliance to management and stakeholders
  • Perform ad hoc reports and additional accounting duties, as needed, to support the team

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 3+ years of experience in the general ledger, financial reporting, and financial analysis
  • Knowledge and expertise in US GAAP
  • CPA certification and/or Big 4 Public accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with a focus on Excel

Nice-to-haves

  • Lease accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in D365 and/or OneStream is a plus
