About the position

The Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer will provide technical expertise in the design, configuration, implementation, and performance assessment of APC applications within the petrochemical or refining industry. This role focuses on driving value from APC applications, ensuring high availability, and collaborating with operations to optimize performance and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced process control (APC) technical expertise to support design and implementation of APC applications.
  • Identify APC use opportunities and evaluate economic incentives.
  • Develop, design, commission, and tune APC controllers.
  • Build and implement inferential models as needed.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to establish baseline performance measurements for evaluating APC applications.
  • Lead analysis, design, revamping, and tuning of existing multivariable constraint control applications.
  • Drive value from APC applications and maintain high availability of APC applications and models.
  • Perform post-implementation audits of APC performance and track ongoing performance.
  • Participate in Six Sigma teams to evaluate and implement projects.
  • Maintain expertise in process control through professional development and participation in industry events.
  • Facilitate compliance with alarm system management policies and standards.
  • Participate in the plant Behavior Based Safety Process.
  • Train operators on process control changes.
  • Ensure compliance with integrated management systems regarding safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and assist in achieving company goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree required; preferred in Chemical or Electrical Engineering, or related fields with relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of process control engineering experience in petrochemical or refining industries, with at least 3 years in Advanced Process Control.
  • 10+ years of process control engineering experience, including 5 years in Advanced Process Control preferred.
  • Experience with commercial DCS systems used in petrochemical or refining industries required.
  • Experience with process engineering in petrochemical or refining industries required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant industry computer applications.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or PhD in a related field is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Emerson DeltaV and/or Foxboro I/A distributed control systems.
