About the position

As a Senior Advanced Systems Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems, you will play a pivotal role in the development and deployment of cutting-edge ground operational systems for the SDA GMI program. This position requires you to be a part of a cross-functional team, where your expertise in systems engineering will be crucial in ensuring the success of the program. You will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks including requirements analysis, functional analysis, system design, and systems integration and testing. Your work will directly contribute to the creation of systems that meet stringent governmental security specifications, ensuring that our nation's security is upheld through innovative engineering solutions. In this role, you will engage in technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability assessments for subsystems and system elements. You will also be tasked with developing system requirements and defining allocations to lower levels, ensuring that all components work seamlessly together. Your ability to communicate effectively and lead technical discussions will be essential as you interact with senior levels of internal working groups and coordinate with external partners. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in satellite communications and ground operations, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development. Responsibilities

  • Perform requirements analysis, requirements definition, and requirements management.
  • Conduct functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, and detail trade studies.
  • Engage in systems integration and testing (verification), validation, and interface definition studies under supervision.
  • Perform technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements.
  • Analyze customer requirements, develop system requirements, and define allocations to lower levels.
  • Conduct detailed technical analyses for subsystem or system elements.
  • Develop and evaluate systems, networks, and information systems to ensure compliance with governmental security specifications.
  • Provide system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support for technical security features.
  • Develop system security documentation for new and fielded information systems.
  • Participate in Modeling and Simulation activities.
  • Research and analyze data to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Support the generation of technical engineering products using appropriate standards and processes throughout the system development life cycle.
  • Provide leadership and/or direction to lower-level employees as needed.
  • Independently determine proposed approaches to solutions and contribute to major programs and projects.
  • Plan and execute project tasks for assigned activities.
  • Define processes for technical platforms, system specifications, and compatibility for hardware and/or software.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Design complete and complex frameworks, systems, or products.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field.
  • 8+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of job-related experience.
  • Preferred experience in Agile methodologies.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance within a reasonable time from date of hire.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed.
